Mission & Values
The aim of using the Early Years Foundation Stage is to help all children achieve the five ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well-being.

A Principal Approach

The Early Years Foundation Stage states that "All children, irrespective of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties or disabilities, gender or ability should have the opportunity to experience a challenging and enjoyable programme of learning and development”.

We plan activities to meet the seven areas of learning detailed by the EYFS covered by the early learning goals and education programmes. We aim to provide activities appropriate to each child’s individual development and to meet needs of each child through careful assessment and planning.
Our Seven Areas of Learning

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We will provide children with experiences and support which will help them to develop a positive sense of themselves and of others; respect for others; social skills; and a positive disposition to learn. We will also ensure there is support for children’s emotional well- being to help them know themselves and what they do.

Children will be provided with opportunity and encouragement to use their skills in a range of situations and for a range of purposes, and be supported in developing the confidence and disposition to do so.

The physical development of babies and young children will be encouraged through the provision of opportunities for them to be active and interactive and to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement.
They will be supported in using all their senses to learn about the world around them and to make connections between new information and what they already know. They will be supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food.

Children’s creativity will be extended by the provision of support for their curiosity, exploration and play. They safely use and explore a variety of material, tools and techniques. They will be provided with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings, for example, through a variety of art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role- play activities, mathematics and design and technologies.

Children will be supported in developing their understanding of numbers, shapes, space and measure in a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practise and talk about their developing understanding. They will be provided with opportunities to practise and extend their skills in these areas and to gain confidence and competence in their use.

Children will be supported in developing the knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world. Their learning will be supported through offering opportunities for them to encounter creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments and in real- life situations; undertake practical ‘experiments’; and work with a range of materials.

Children read and understand simple words and use phonic knowledge to decode regular words. They can write words in ways that match their spoken sound.
